Community Resources

In addition to our on staff Parent Liaison, Sylvia Velez, LHS offers a variety of community resources for its students and families.  Check out the following links to see the many services available to you.

Communities in Schools:
Communities In Schools On the South Plains, Inc. is the realization of a regional effort by community leaders to help students stay in school and prepare for life. In 1998, the dropout rate was rising at an alarming rate.
Communities In Schools is the nation's largest dropout prevention organization. The mission of Communities In Schools is to champion the connection of needed community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life. By bringing caring adults into the schools to address children’s unmet needs, CIS provides the link between educators and the community. The result: teachers are free to teach, and students – many in jeopardy of dropping out – have the opportunity to focus on learning.

Community Health and Dental Information:
The Community Health Center of Lubbock is committed to the values of teamwork, service, and excellence by providing quality primary and preventative health care services to those in need.

Family Guidance and Outreach:
Family Guidance & Outreach Center of Lubbock is proud to offer Anger Wranglers, a cowboy-themed anger management program especially for children ages 7, 8, and 9, and Dino-Might Tykes, a dinosaur-themed anger management program for children ages 3, 4, 5, and 6. These five-part courses help children to take control of their anger. Children learn how to manage anger through discussion, role play, and crafts. Anger Wranglers presentations are available through the YW-CAre Child Care Programs; Dino-Might Tykes presentations are available through area Head Start Programs. Facilitator training for both programs also is available. For more information, please call 806-747-5577 or email familyguidance@nts-online.net.

Insurance Information:
Texas Kids First offers plans for School Districts, as well as Individual Accident Insurance Plans, Health Insurance Plans, and free Prescription Discount Drug cards for families throughout Texas. These affordable, limited-benefit plans are primary to all other insurance and are designed to help offset deductibles and co-insurance.  The policy issued will be the contract and will govern and control the payment of benefits.
